Accelerating the shift toward a model decoupled from natural resource consumption was a constant theme.<br \/>\nFilo Ca\u00f1ete (Diputaci\u00f3 de Barcelona), Xavier Roca (Government of Catalonia), and Ariadna Llorens (UPC) highlighted the sector\u2019s weight in energy use and waste generation.<\/p>\n<p>Luis Sanz, CEO of Grupo Construc\u00eda, stated:<br \/>\n<strong>\u201cWe are no longer debating whether circularity is necessary. The challenge now is to activate tangible short-term benefits to accelerate adoption.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The City of London: a benchmark and inspiration for urban innovation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first thematic block focused on the City of London, introduced by Kerstin Kane (City of London Corporation), who outlined the British capital\u2019s circular strategy and current implementation.<\/p>\n<p>In the conversation that followed, Ignasi Cubi\u00f1\u00e1 (Grupo Construc\u00eda &amp; EIG), Nia Bell (Climate Group), and James Adams (Maconda Solutions) agreed that digitalisation\u2014material passports, reliable data, traceability\u2014and public\u2013private collaboration are essential to scaling circular solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Nia Bell highlighted the Climate Group\u2019s work to decarbonise concrete and steel, while Adams stressed the need for data-driven models to act beyond the local level.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spotify Camp Nou: bringing circularity to major infrastructures<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second thematic block addressed innovation in flagship projects. In the case of Spotify Camp Nou, Jordi Portabella (FC Barcelona) presented the recovery and reuse of over 120,000 tonnes of concrete\u2014positioning the project as an international benchmark for applied circularity.<\/p>\n<p>The subsequent panel, led by N\u00faria Forcada (UPC\u2013Grupo Construc\u00eda Chair), explored opportunities in urban mining, soil decontamination, and activating material resources already present in cities.<\/p>\n<p>Albert Gil (Batlleiroig Arquitectura) emphasized:<br \/>\n<strong>\u201cCircularity must begin before imagining the project. You first identify the available material stock; then you design.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Business innovation \u2014 and a touch of humor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Companies including Knauf, Interface, Holcim, and Lamp presented their circular business models, demonstrating that industrial innovation is key to transforming the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Eloi Juvill\u00e0, Director of Building and Logistics at the Diputaci\u00f3 de Barcelona, also spoke about the \u201cReto Mineral\u201d initiative, aimed at enabling material recovery in urban settings.<\/p>\n<p>To close the morning session, Impro Barcelona added a humorous twist that refreshed the debate and engaged the audience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshops\u2014turning discourse into coordinated action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 5th Summit hosted four specialized working groups advancing concrete industry challenges:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Risk &amp; value:<\/strong> integrating circularity into real estate risk assessment (Grupo Construc\u00eda &amp; GBCe).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Low-carbon concrete value chain<\/strong> (Concrete Zero).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Service-based models:<\/strong> barriers and opportunities, led by EIG with Interface, Knauf, and Ziclick.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Urban mining:<\/strong> opportunities for direct window recovery using the Hydro Building Systems \/ Technal model.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recognizing innovation: UPC\u2013Grupo Construc\u00eda Chair Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event featured the UPC\u2013Grupo Construc\u00eda Chair Awards, recognizing innovative circular economy projects in construction and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to foster solutions with social and environmental impact.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>An ecosystem in motion: alliances to transform the sector<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Summit\u2019s conclusions were unanimous: transitioning to circular construction requires collaboration across administrations, developers, contractors, material manufacturers, waste managers, and the financial chain.<\/p>\n<p>As Kerstin Kane noted:<br \/>\n<strong>\u201cUrban planning is one of the most powerful levers.
