The value of what already Exists: how to give new life to architectural lighting through circularity
17 de November de 2025The pioneering circular construction ecosystem has completed the transformation of retail spaces, the renovation of the main lobby, and upgrades to the roofs, terraces, and façade of the iconic Castellana 200 complex.
Grupo Construcía has finalized the comprehensive refurbishment of NUGA Castellana, the shopping center that has become a trendsetter in Madrid thanks to its innovative design and sustainable approach. The project, promoted by GLOBAL MANZANA, S.L.U., is located on the emblematic Paseo de la Castellana 200 and is part of a major urban development that combines offices, rental housing, dining, wellness, and health spaces—positioning itself as a milestone in the regeneration of Madrid’s urban fabric.
Covering +19,000 m² and completed in 14 months, Grupo Construcía worked on several key areas of the complex:
- Redesign of the shopping center’s interior and the passages connecting residential and commercial zones.
- Adaptation of new spaces for anchor tenants such as H&M and MediaMarkt, ensuring continuity of their operations.
- Complete renovation of the Castellana 200 building’s main lobby, enhancing the access and transit experience.
- Upgrades to the walkable flat roof, including new waterproofing, finishes, and the creation of a dining area accessible via a new elevator.
- Partial refurbishment of the main façade facing Paseo de la Castellana.
- Implementation of Lean Construction methodology to maximize efficiency and coordination throughout the process.
- Energy, operational, and maintenance optimization aligned with Grupo Construcía’s circularity and efficiency standards.
This project is part of the transformation of Madrid’s so-called “Big Apple,” a 66,000 m² complex that brings together housing, retail, offices, and dining in the heart of the capital. Thanks to its circular economy strategy, material transparency, and lean approach, Grupo Construcía has delivered environmental results well above industry averages, consolidating NUGA Castellana as a benchmark for sustainable construction in Madrid.
“NUGA Castellana is a clear example of how circular construction can turn high-demand urban spaces into healthier, more efficient, and future-ready environments. Our commitment to sustainability and innovation allowed us to lead a complex intervention while minimizing impacts and creating value for the city and its users,” said a representative from Grupo Construcía.
